Top 3 Real Space Ships, Musicals, and Sci Fi/Fantasy Book Series

What I Did This Week:

Wesley: I did stuffs
  • Played an S-ton of Saints Row 2
  • -Beat it, restarted it, and am in the middle of a 100 percent run now.
  • -I’ve beaten most of the “hardest stuff in the game” stuff so expect 100 percent is in my grasp.
  • -Hardest thing was probably the Heli-Assault, which took hours.
  • Started Watching Clone Wars Season 3
  • -Not Grabbing me like the previous seasons had.
  • -Though the battle scenes are still epic, the stories and characters are lacking.
  • I’ve only seen 3 episodes, though, so maybe the bad ones are just front-loaded.
  • Pre-Ordered Mass Effect 3
  • -My first pre-order.
  • -Got $10 from Amazon and some armor or whatever.
  • -And got day-of delivery.
  • -Day-of is a Tuesday.
  • -So I took Tuesday off from work.
  • -And Wednesday.
  • I will be getting a Droid 4, probably on Monday.
  • -It mostly depends on if they have them in stock.

Jeffrey: Books: Choose your own Adventure
  • It’s an adventure you choose…sort of.
Wesley: BOOKS: Elijah Baley mysteries
  • An Earth detective is tasked to solve 3 murders, that all involve robots.
  • Far more importantly, though, is the worlds he builds for the mysteries to take place in. First Earth, where everybody lives underground. Then Solaria, where privacy is so important that even married people barely see each other, ever. And finally Aurora, where the long-lived scientists refuse to collaborate so they can get the entire credit for a discovery, which works great until one of them is murdered.

Top 5 – #2:

Wesley: BOOKS: Ender series
  • Really, the only good is 2 of the books: Ender’s Game and Ender’s Shadow. But they are, together, good enough to put them on the list.
  • If you want to see flawed characters infighting their way to saving humanity, this is your kind of story.
  • And then, when you’re done with the first book, you get to read the entire story over again from the perspective of one of the minor characters.
  • Brilliant.

Top 5 – #1:

Wesley: BOOKS: Foundation Series
  • This is a wonderful book series about people using politics, wits, and – most importantly – nonviolence to keep – literally – a galaxy of barbarians at bay while their Foundation grows from a small one-planet colony to the second Galactic Empire, following the plan of a brilliant mathematician who used equations to predict the future 1000 years in advance.
  • And if that’s not enough, wait until you see what happens when something that isn’t predicted throws a wrench in the entire plan.

Wesley: SHIPS: Saturn V
  • Holy crap this thing’s huge.
  • The only ship even remotely the same size is the Soviet N-1.
  • Though the Ares comes close, but they were canceled.
  • Essentially a huge tank of fuel, in sections that can be dropped so you don’t have to lift the empty tank.
  • All that fuel is to get the module – a small craft that barely holds 3 astronauts, a lander, the fuel to get back to Earth – to the Moon.
  • Sometimes, Brute Force is the best way.
  • Maybe it’s technically not a space ship, but the whole thing was required to get those 3 guys to the moon, so I’m counting it.

Wesley: SHIPS: Space Shuttle
  • For the bulk of my life, this has been the way Americans have gotten into space.
  • Though it never lived up to the promises, it was an amazing craft.
  • And I’m not discerning one particular shuttle, as the only difference between them is that two of them blew up.

Wesley: SHIPS: SpaceShipTwo
  • Okay, it’s barely able to reach space. It can’t get into orbit and literally only spends a couple minutes in space out of a 2-hour flight.
  • But it’s the first commercial space ship to do so.
  • And it’s the herald of a new age.
  • 200 people have already pre-paid $200,000 each for a flight, the fist of which will hopefully take place in 2013.

Top 5 Romantic Pairings In Movies

What I Did This Week:

Wesley: I did stuffs
  • Watched Pirates Of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides. Liked it. Probably my second favorite after the original and before the second one.
  • Watched George Romero’s Land of the Dead, starring the Mentalist’s Simon Baker, and with a big part by Dennis Hopper. Good flick, probably my favorite “Dead” movie.
  • Watched George Romero’s Dairy of the Dead, which was his Cloverfield/Blair Witch attempt. I hated it.
  • Watched Deep Space 9. I love this show and feel stupid for having not seen it up to now. The actor who plays Cisco really needs to turn his emote-a-tron up. I haven’t seen acting this wooden since… ever, really.
  • Played a ton of Saints Row 2. I’m going to beat it and then re-start to take a run at 100%. This is the first game of this type since Vice City to really draw me in to the over-the-top action game genre.

Wesley: Henry and Lucy from 50 First Dates
  • To want to be in this relationship, you really have to want it. BAD.
  • Though I guess you could really screw up and just try it again the next day.
Jeffrey: Leo and Kate – Titanic
  • We ALL sat through this one. And while I won’t go out of my way to sit through it again, I have to admit they are a good pairing. I mean the entire movie that wasn’t about a sinking boat was about their trist.

Top 5 – #4:

Jeffrey: Carl and Ellie – Up
  • For not having much screen time, this is one of the most memorable romantic pairings ever. A deeper love story has yet to be told in such a short piece of film.
Wesley: Henry and Claire from The Time Traveler’s Wife
  • Talk about marital problems. How’d you like it if your spouse vanished at random, and also showed up at random at wildly different ages?
  • The marriage as portrayed was the most realistic part of this movie, and I could actually see it playing out this way if the whole time travel thing was real.

Top 5 – #3:

Jeffrey: Leo and Claire – Romeo and Juliet
  • Ok, so this may be more about the story than the actual people, but I did actually see this in the theatre when it came out. Surprisingly good actually. They were VERY true to the original story. They spoke in “Shakespearian” which was neat to hear with an updated setting for the story.
Wesley: Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride
  • Aaaaaaaas Youuuuuuu Wiiiiiiiiiiiish!
  • I just like the dogged determinedness of their love. Once Buttercup realizes that death can’t stop their love, she believes it without wavering.
  • And she’s right.

Top 5 – #2:

Wesley: Ron and Hermione from the Harry Potter series
  • It was fun watching these two grow up, and fall for each other slowly over the course of the movies. It felt very realistic and organic.
Jeffrey: Han & Leia – Star Wars original Trilogy
  • For me this was a no brainer. I love the fighting couple AND the scoundrel love story combined. One of the best I love you’s in cinema -TWICE! I love that this is a bit unexpected and the fighting between them makes this such a realistic romance too. Not too overblown for the big screen, just enough. Plus it’s not just a scoundrel, it’s a scoundrel and a Princess (Hello, Tangled. Copy much?)

Top 5 – #1:

Wesley: Shrek and Fiona from ths Shrek series
  • I like this one because neither thinks they’d ever be with another, and for totally different reasons, but they find each other and are perfect for each other not in spite of their issues, but because of them.
Jeffrey: Wall-E and Eve – WALL-E
  • Yes. Really. At first it’s an unrequited love. Then she does not believ it will work. Then he earn her love and admiration. Then they are in mortal danger. They both put themselves in ultimate peril for the other, Travel across the galaxy, nearly die, and restore faith in mankind through their love. And it’s all performed with Less than a sentence or two worth of words. Most conversations between them consist of them saying one word, and that’s typically the other’s name. Not shabby for a couple of animated robots.

  • Hey there Pulp. There’s this is Drew, with a while since I called figured I would, freaking voicemail, so I was from the leave a message, got a couple trying to call me if you will about. Do you know I’m graphically pleasing games. I actually had it at one point a box set of the entire info com catalog on, it was. It was a box for the contain both 3 napping. A. M. 5. A quarter inch floppy, and all of the manuals and map some things from the original boxes. So, like, the entire series of 30. I’ve games or whatever was I don’t think I ever finish any of them. Maybe what I can remember that was one that I think I finish like 100. I was sort of thing, but the a lot of other ones. I started and just never got into far enough. It would not be frustrated with them away but I did place on the Hitchhiker’s Guide was I also wanted to get a lot of women who presents class which is a from Los other website. Again, it’s basically a old school tested enter style game with some graphics that were made, intentionally or what for that. Real, School 386 5. With the standard brothers chaps humor road in very very much worth playing. If you haven’t that was passed away. But I’d like to go pick for, or will graphic game. I was a game called continuum, that. We had a on the macintosh classic in Macintosh, plus machines of my high school. This is an old old old. Max that we’re just black and white. And then The game was on a floppy the operating system was on a floppy actually at the time. And the game was basically a m overhead view of the spaceship, that you would steer with the with the keys through. May his self storage with. You know just what black single solid line walls and he’s alternates on the walls of urgent dots that you and you had to try to get through the maze without I’ll be in any of the walls are without getting shots. But what was called out the game was it. It was a person that I recall having a level editor, anybody who had to game could also make, 0 Levels, and save them for other people and then you it we keep the scoreboard for who had gone the most points. ON each person’s board and you could just passed a floppy around everybody can try each others each others levels out. Also the actual way past year of viruses. So that, now what I spend a Todd of time on the high school. Making the options to share with people and playing them and then it was. It was pretty low grade graphics I. I would imagine it’s probably no longer possible play it. Because her old mac O S 6 or 7 operators and there’s no need to know if there’s any.

Best Video Games With Bad or Low Graphics

What I Did This Week:

Wesley: I did this!
  • Finished Saints Row. OMG the last 5 minutes has more story than the entire rest of the game.
  • Started Saints Row 2. In ALL ways better than SR1. I really liked Saints Row but after playing 2, I don’t think I could go back. Among the awesome: Cruise control. Save anywhere. Play as a woman.
  • Watched Captain America. Other than Iron Man, my favorite of the current Marvel movies.

  • More ST watching – Just finished the creepy kids episode. Also forgot to mentions the surprise Terri Garr appreance.
  • Forzaing – Prepped and ready to go for this race. It’s a long one too at 25 laps.
  • More Peggle – It’s getting seriously challenging.
  • Green Hornet = Seth Rogan fail, Kato Win. Can he be anyone but himself in a movie?
  • Got A DVR installed upstairs now.
  • Spoiler alert! -Ferris Bueller #2 commercial is fail

Wesley: CoreWars
  • Write an assembly program that can kill other assembly programs, before they kill yours.
  • the only graphics is a graphical representation of the core, which is traditionally in ASCII.
  • Very fun, but very hard. I never got into it enough to compete which is why it’s so low on my list.
Jeffrey: Mousehunt
  • Next to no graphics, but artwork is pretty neat. The premis of the game is really simple, but yet it is very complex to accomplish the tasks set forth for you. Easily addicting.
  • This game has it’s own wikipedia for helping you solve certain aspects of the game.

Top 5 – #4:

Jeffrey: Ms. Pac Man
  • It’s the better of the Pac Man games. And I can still sit and play this game for a good long time and feel challenged. I like the nostalgia and simplicity of the design as well.
Wesley: Adventure
  • Classic Atari 2600 game.
  • All graphics, but all the graphics are simple. The most “flashy” graphics are the Bat and the Chalice, the Bat because its wings move, and the Chalice because it cycles through colors.
  • Everything else is simple. You are a square. Your sword is an arrow. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Jeffrey: Pascal Light cycles – As programmed by Wesley
  • If you don’t have this on your list WEs, I call Shenanigans. I loved playing this game. We’d be able to alter the speed, the direction and it was wayy too fun to play for a very minimal graphic setup. So many memories playing this game. I wonder of you still have it somewhere?
Wesley: Minesweeper
  • Windows Minesweeper in particular.
  • The one that came with 3.1 in even more particular.
  • I played the HELL out of this game.
  • So much that I got bored, so made up rules to make it a little harder.
  • I always wanted to code my own version that enforced those rules.
  • In the original game, nearly everything is functional. Things like the numbers being different colors was not flashy, it was functional. Damn it.

Bob: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
  • The only Infocom game I finished
Jeffrey: Tetris
  • Talk about a puzzle game that has addictive qualities, this is first in my mind.
Wesley: WordFeud
  • Really, any Scrabble-type game would work.
  • Though WordFeud is my favorite, and probably the least-graphical of all the versions I’ve played, at least recently.
  • I love this game. It is one of the few apps on my phone that I use EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Top 5 – #1:

Wesley: Rogue
  • One of my first favorite video games. I played it in middle school in the computer lab, and then in high school in the computer lab, and finally on my home computer.
  • I pick it (and more often its descendant, NetHack) on a regular basis, but lose interest quickly due to the dumb ways you can die.
  • but due to the ASCII graphics, fun gameplay, and insane amount of time I spent on it, Rogue is easily my #1.
Jeffrey: Arkanoid
  • As simple as this game is in nature I can play it for hours on end. I love the addition of power ups and power downs to the traditional breakout format It adds an additional skill level that really ramp the challenge in a way that tickles my video game brain.

The premis of the game is really simple, but yet it is very complex to accomplish the tasks set forth for you. And I can still sit and play this game for a good long time and feel challenged. I like the nostalgia and simplicity of the design as well. The most "flashy" graphics are the Bat and the Chalice, the Bat because its wings move, and the Chalice because it cycles through colors.Everything else is simple. You are a square. Wesley: WordFeudReally, any Scrabble-type game would work.Though WordFeud is my favorite, and probably the least-graphical of all the versions I've played, at least recently.I love this game. Top 5 Sci-Fi Weapons

What I Did This Week:

Wesley: Things I did
  • Drove to Texas and back.
  • Ford Fusion, with an aux port and cruise. The rest was unimportant.
  • Ate a very good smoked prime rib at Texas Roadhouse. They have them up here, and I may need to revisit one to see if the prime rib is similar.
  • Watched the rest of Season 5 of Star Trek Next Generation, and started Season 6. I’m getting close to the start of Deep Space 9. I will be watching them in production order.
  • Watched Book of Eli. Liked the action, didn’t buy the premise or the ending twist.
  • Watched Star Trek VI, Undiscovered Country. It was okay, though not near as good as Next Gen. And plot holes you could fly a Constitution Class star ship through.
  • Watched Terminator: Salvation. Speaking of plot holes. Good flick, though. Much better than Judgement Day.
  • Watched Thor. Liked it, but didn’t love it. Good action flick and I’ll happily watch the sequel.
  • Played more Saints Row. Fun, solid game. I like the “followers” mechanic and the cars handle a bit better than their GTA counterparts. The biggest problem I have with the game is how easy it is to lose when it’s not your fault, and then you have to restart a potentially lengthy mission. I fully expect to complete it this weekend and move on to SR2.
Bob:

Wesley: Bat’leth (Star Trek)
  • This weapon wins the style award. Sick looking death blade. I have no idea if it’d be good in a fight, and it assuredly wouldn’t work so well in a phaser fight, but damn if it doesn’t look cool.
Bob: Shrinker
  • “That’s a high-temperature, fabric-adhesive liquid projector… based on simple dry-cleaning technology.
  • …
  • I can trick that out with a clamshell holster.
  • Comes with a leather carrying case. It’s got a wad cutter and full warranty.”
Jeffrey: Noisy Cricket
  • Love the comedy and severity of damage for this weapon. I also love that it sounds a bit like a cricket. Neat design and made for good funny, more than once. Visually at first and when it was fired.

Top 5 – #4:

Jeffrey: River Tam
  • Is using River cheating? Maybe. But here’s my case: She was kidnapped and forced to become a super soldier with incredible skill. Not only was she skilled, but her memory was altered so that she could be trigged and used…as a weapon, with a mechanism of their choosing. So while she was highly trained she was not fully in control of her own body. therefore, she was a weapon.
Wesley: Proton Pack (Ghostbusters)
  • Very specific use, but I love these weapons. If you haven’t yet, do yourself a favor and try the Ghostbusters demo for Xbox 360. It will give you a very good idea of what it’d be like to use a Proton Pack for reals.
  • Oh, and did you know they never had a name in the first movie? They were merely referred to as “unlicensed nuclear accelerator”s. The name “Proton Pack” was first uttered in the subway scene in the 2nd movie. So, something good DID come out of that movie.

Top 5 – #3:

Wesley: Shishkebab (Fallout 3)
  • Flaming Sword Of Death, is a better name for this horrendously overpowered weapon.
  • If you take the right perks (melee and extra flame damage, in particular) and beef up those stats, you go from a chump to a NINJA.
  • A NINJA WITH FIRE.
Bob: Sniper Rifle System 99D-S2 Anti-Materiel
  • The Halo sniper rifle. Responsible for much of my limited success in Halo combat.
Jeffrey: Bat’leth
  • I’ve always like blade weapons, and having seen this thing used in “combat” on TV, you can actually see the practicality of the weapon. As a two handed weapon goes, this thing is bad ass. Also…you can buy one. Right now. On the internets. Not many other sci-fi weapons can make that claim.

Top 5 – #2:

Bob: Lightsaber
  • An elegant weapon for a more civilized age
  • Ironically, I do not yet have a lightsaber-wielding character on SW:TOR
Jeffrey: Ma’Tok (Jaffa) Staff
  • This is the staff that is ised by the Jackal/Alien race called the Jaffa in the stargate movie. It’s porbaly in the tv show as well, but hell if I know, since I don’t watch it. This weaon is a ranged energy weapon as well as a club, staff, and a bit of a hand held spear all rolled up into one. That’s some thinking. Not accurate at long range, but still all kinds of kick ass.
Wesley: Alien Rifle (District 9)
  • I couldn’t find a good link to an image, video, or even description of the gun.
  • How it looks, though, isn’t as important as what it does.
  • Aim, fire, and the person you shot liquefies and explodes. No fuss, lots of muss.

Top 5 – #1:

Bob: Wave Motion Gun
  • If it having spawned one of our best bits of PAW comedy wasn’t enough to sell it, how about this: It’s an energy weapon, fired through a RIFLED barrel, which comprises most of a flying WWII battleship.
Jeffrey: Lightsaber
  • Is it an obvious choice? Perhaps. But let’s be honest, if we all had the option of choosing ONE weapon we could own, this is the one we’d pick. Now, you’d have to be trained in the force to use it properly of course, but in the hands of a trained jedi or sith, you’re pretty well screwed. Cuts through or melts space metal, deflects blaser fire, cuts people in half and cauterizes the wound. Plus, just having one means people will tend not to f**k with you.
Wesley: Lightsaber (Star Wars)
  • This is a fantastic weapon, though it is impractical for anybody who is not superbly trained with it.
  • So, this is my #1 with a single caveat: the user must be a Jedi.

  • Actual guns – Firefly
  • Like old west style rifles and pistols. Too cool to see thes used in a futuristic setting. Good one Joss.
  • Ysalamri – not really a weapon perse, but such a cool tactic tool in the Zahn series.
  • The AT-AT – I know you might say I can only use the blasters fromt he AT-ATs but come on, the whole thing is a weapon.
  • Blaster Pistol – Han Solo style. These are a mainstay and I could not see sci-fi going without them.
  • Proton Pack – Ghostbusters. I know…weapon? But it was totally used as a weapon against ghosts. It makes the HM list for that.

Wesley: Predictions for 2012
  • Apple TV will become Apple’s Wii. It will sell great, even though nobody knows why they’re buying it. It will be generally reported that it’s no better than a regular TV, and the extra stuff will not see great use. Many people who get it will express “buyer’s remorse” and will end up using it as a regular TV. It will essentially be a built-in Xbox without the games, and with an iNterface. And in 5 years you won’t be able to replace it with the new model without getting a new TV.
  • Netflix will continue to hemorrhage money, but will continue to add amazing content to streaming. By the end of the year, they will show promising numbers but will still be deep in the red. Their original programming will get good reviews, and will be good, but won’t have an appreciable effect on their bottom line.
  • Microsoft’s next console, dubbed by me as the Xbox 420, will be available for purchase by Christmas. It will come with a Kinect bundled but you can buy an “arcade” version without one. Cost? $500 for the “standard” model.
  • Mass Effect 3 will be good, but nowhere near expectations. It will sell very well, and Mass Effect 4 will be announced by the end of the year. It will be the start of a new trilogy in the same universe, with a totally different character. Why? Because Shepard will die at the end of ME3.
  • SOPA will fail after losing so much support from companies who are afraid of customer backlash. This will start a promising trend in Internet legislation.
  • Kepler will discover at least one planet within 25% of Earth’s size, orbiting in the habitable zone of a star within 25% the size of Earth’s sun.

What I Did This Week:

Wesley: Proof I’m A Geek
  • Played Minecraft on Android
  • Played Sim City Deluxe on Android
  • Played more Spacechem.
  • Played Gratuitous Space Battles.
  • Watched a TON of ST:TNG Season 3. Completed it and moved on to Season 4. Its like someone flipped a switch and the show went from good to awesome in one episode (Season 3 finale, where the Borg capture Picard). I want to look into it and see if something major changed, like a new head writer, producer, or something like that.
  • Continued working on my audio player, named ‘mp2′. Added album art and removed mplayer from the loop. The program now does everything. Tons still on the to-do list though.
Bob:
  • - Won my Forza league with a convincing victory at the Nurburgring Nordschliefe
  • - Played Fallout: New Vegas
  • - Started over in SW:TOR
Jeffrey: Things I dood
  • The New X-Box screen cam out – I like it

Wesley: Black Velvet Whiskey
  • No top-5 list of mine would be genuine without including my go-to whiskey, Black Velvet.
  • This mixes with EVERYTHING. Dr Pepper. Coke. Orange juice. Gatorade. Lemonade. Apple Cider. Sierra Mist. Twizzlers. I’m serious.
  • Essentially, Black Velvet is my favorite cheap whiskey.
Jeffrey: The Glenlivet – 15 year – french oak reserve
  • A great 15 year single malt speyside scotch.
  • It is aged in the same type of oak barrels that a lot of cognacs are made in…for 15 years.
  • Think what you were doing 15 years ago. That’s when the put this in the barrel to age. Glenlivet was doing something better than you were 15 years ago.

Top 5 – #4:

Wesley: Bacardi 151 Rum
  • I think I tried this rum in high school, mostly because it was the highest proof I could get my hands on. I don’t remember much about it.
  • I tried it again during Volcanicast’s 151st episode, and was shocked at how good it was. I figured the alcohol flavor would be overwhelming and the rum would be neigh-on undrinkable.
  • I was very, very wrong and now 151 finds a place in my freezer for those days where I want a good mixed rum drink with an extra kick.
  • Mixes with pretty much anything, but my favorites and Dr Pepper and my tropical smoothie.
Jeffrey: Don Julio Anejo
  • 18 months aged in american white oak. I love this tequila. I only recently (past 2 years or so) really discovered Don Julio, but I have never looked back since. And the Anejo is the only way to go. I’ve had this in both margarita and straight forms and it not only holds it’s own, it adds something to anything it’s mixed with. Haven’t tried it? Go. NOW!

Top 5 – #3:

Wesley: Skyy Vodka
  • The important thing in vodka is that it has little to no taste. Bad vodka has a taste – and a bad taste at that. This taste comes from the vodka not being filtered enough.
  • Once you filter your vodka 3 or 4 times, you don’t need to do anything else to it to make it better. This is pretty much what Skyy does. Then they sell it.
  • And I drink it, usually with orange juice. Though, I think I’m going to start trying martinis again, only this time with Vodka instead of Gin.
Jeffrey: Cragganmore
  • Not the best scotch ever..but a clear value winner. I have found not better scotch at this level of cost. For me $30 – $37 is not a lot to pay for a good bottle of scotch. And this tastes like it should cost about twice that. I have paid $60 for a bottle of scotch that I could compare to this and still prefer the Cragganmore. Ex: Chivas. I’d rather buy Cragganmore than Chivas any day.

Top 5 – #2:

Wesley: Kraken Spiced Rum
  • Purpose: Pretty much a beer substitute. Goes great with Dr Pepper (Even Dr Pepper 10) and even better with lemonade. Also goes great in my tropical smoothies.
  • Extremely spicy, but it doesn’t smell so. The three prominent spices are vanilla, cinnamon and cloves.
Jeffrey: The Balvenie – 12 year – double wood
  • This Scotch is transferred in the aging process from an oak cask to a European oak Sherry cask. The results are outstanding. This is another, worth more than what you pay for, and it doesn’t even come cheap, but even at $45 – $55 it’s a steal. I can’t wait to have the higher end scotch that The Balvenie offers.

Top 5 – #1:

Wesley: The Glenlivet 15 Year
  • Purpose: I drink this when I want to slowly sip a glass of scotch on the rocks.
  • Sometimes with a cigar.
  • When I want to sit on the porch for a half hour to an hour and chill out.
  • Or, when we’re all together it’s a nice social drink.
  • Not very peaty or smoky, just “scotchiness.”
  • 15 and up I like neat, though 15 I frequently drink with rocks. 12 is always rocks as watering it down makes it more sippable.
Jeffrey: The Glenlivet 18 year
  • Best Scotch I have ever tasted. I started my Scotch on the Glenlivet 12 year and upgraded to this. I have never met quite a match for this. I am interested to try The Glenlivet XXV, but I haven’t won the lottery yet, so I am guessing I won’t be tasting it anytime soon. Please, If you call yourself a lover of Scotch and all things Scotch. Do your palate a favor and go get some of this for it. If you don’t thank me for it, you may need to question your dedication to all things Scotch. (Not Scottish)

  • Ron Centenario Anejo especial – RUM You can get this for about $18 online and it is by far the sweetest and cleanest rum I have had the pleasure of consuming
  • Maker’s Mark – It’s the good bourbon. Plus the wax is cool.
  • Clynelish 14 year – This is where the smoke of the Islay and the fruitiness of Speyside meet – On the coastal Highlands. It has notes of both and it is a nice combo.
  • Jameson -it Irish whiskey

Wesley: F-Zero X (October 1998)
  • Futuristic racer with very few frills.
  • However, it had many thrills.
  • Very fast gameplay.
  • Fun – but fair – physics.
  • Most of the time, on a floating track with no sides.
  • Frequently, inside a tube.
  • Occasionally, OUTSIDE a tube (the hardest)
  • The track had boosts, jumps, slippery spots, slow-down zones, and the like.
  • Bonus: If you knocked someone off the track, they were done for the race. No pansy restarting.
  • Big bonus: Random track generator for infinite replayability.
  • An expansion – the first and only game I seriously considered buying even though it would have been in a foreign language – came out in Japan but never in the US. It had a track editor that I really wanted to try.
Jeffrey: Mega Man 3
  • Early 90′s throwback. Still rented the SNES and really enjoyed the use of Rush (the robot dog) throughout the game.
  • Gotta like hard gaming and using your brain to solve puzzles while shooting crap.

Top 5 – #4:

Jeffrey: Mario Golf
  • This was actually just challenging enough to be awesome. Love that it had goals and the ability to try to mess with other players by having you character talk. Priceless.
Wesley: Mario Golf (July 1999)
  • I beat this game.
  • With every character.
  • This was a must-play game during our game nights in the late 90s and early 00s.
  • Simple golf interface, fun courses, good learning curve…
  • Nintendo does this kind of thing right, and this is just another example of it.

Top 5 – #3:

Jeffrey: Mario Kart 64
  • Endless 4AM type night playing this game. We had a system down for who sat out and scoring and even a drinking game if I recall correctly. Well thought out and excellent game.
Wesley: The New Tetris (July 1999)
  • This may be the first console game I ever beat.
  • Even though beating this game meant you simply played it enough to accrue enough points to unlock all of the videos.
  • The videos were cheesy 90s computer generated landscapes with ancient buildings.
  • But the important part of the game was the 4-player gameplay.
  • When you cleared a line, you could give another player a line of “garbage” (just lines that are only partially filled in).
  • You can also create gold and silver blocks which, when cleared, send even more garbage to your opponent.
  • Fun, fun game. If this was available on Xbox Live Arcade I’d buy it for all 3 of us.

Top 5 – #2:

Wesley: Star Wars Episode 1 Racer (May 1999)
  • This game is the reason I bought a console.
  • I believe I even bought the bundle.
  • Fun game, though probably higher on my list because it was literally my first console game since the Atari.
  • We (for a very short time) played in tournaments where I kept a stupid-lot of stats on each racer, and made the better racers sit on the starting line for a certain period of time before they could go, to give the lesser players a head start.
  • I recall Jeffrey having to wait a hilariously long time – upwards of 90-120 seconds – to let someone bumble their way around the track. They even lapped him before he could hit the accelerator for the first time. Jeffrey was very unhappy and insisted that there was no way he could do it.
  • Wouldn’t you know, the race came down to the final stretch. I don’t remember who won, but I do remember that it couldn’t have been more than 2 seconds between their finishing.
Jeffrey: Star Wars Episode I Racer
  • We seriously spent countless hours on this game. A lot of spreadsheets and brackets for just racing these frickin’ pod racers. The feeling of speed you got from this was just seriously awesome.

Top 5 – #1:

Jeffrey: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • One of the best adventure games of all time. Puzzles, action, more puzzles, free roaming, and side quests. What WASN’T in this game? Again. Hours and Hours beating this game…twice.
Wesley: Mario Kart 64 (February 1997)
  • This game could possibly be on my top 5 all-time favorites. At the least, I think it would be in my top 5 multiplayer games.
  • In fact, it could possibly be my #1 favorite multiplayer game.
  • I don’t think I’ve ever yelled at my friends for such an extended period of time during any other activity, and loved every second of it.
  • Mario Golf was a staple during game nights. Mario Kart was the main event. When there were 5 of us, the winner had to cycle out each race to let the 5th man in. When there were 4 of us, we would play until someone got 99 points. And then, we would frequently play it again.
